Grand Geneva Ski Patrol (GGSP)
Candidate Overview

“The National Ski Patrol (NSP) is a 26,000 member association striving to be the premier provider of training and education programs for emergency rescuers who serve the outdoor recreation community. NSP's mission is to provide education and training in leadership, outdoor emergency care, safety and transportation services, which enables members to serve the community in the safe enjoyment of outdoor recreation.”

To obtain National Ski Patrol Basic Alpine status the following programs must be completed:

  • Hill Training- Introduction to ski patrolling(patroller101).  Focuses on Toboggan handling and skiing skills. Training sessions are twice a week, Wednesday and Saturday, for 12-14 weeks. Candidates are introduced to ski area protocol, policy, and risk management. $12.00 patroller101 book. $75.00 candidate vest deposit required.

  • Outdoor Emergency Care-OEC- 10-12 weeks.  A sequenced, competency-based education program that prepares candidate patrollers and other outdoor rescuers without previous first aid or EMT training to handle the emergency care problems encountered in the nonurban setting. The knowledge and skills learned are oriented toward the wilderness environment, with special emphasis on ski and snowboard injuries, high-altitude and cold-weather illness, wilderness extrications, and the special equipment needed for emergency care and transportation in the outdoor environment. Students are required to participate in comprehensive lessons with skill and scenario application, complete various workbook exercises, take a final written exam, and demonstrate their skills and knowledge in final scenarios. Challenge students and course students are required to demonstrate all the skill performances and complete the same final written exam and practical scenario evaluation.” $75-$100 for books and supplies. 

  • CPR with AED- Professional CPR with AED for health care provider. American Heart Association orAmerican Red Cross.

Annual requirements to maintain membership within National Ski Patrol and Grand Geneva patrol:

  • OEC Refresher(1 day)
  • Chair lift evacuation Refresher(1/2 day)
  • Professional CPR w/AED
  • 60 hours/10 shift credits and two extra shifts.
  • Annual Dues($63.00)
